Hank Heuer came in right on time to lead us in the Pledge, followed by an excellent Invocation by Mark Rogo.
Seated at the Head Table were Mark Rogo, Ann Sampson, Terry R. White, Ed Jackson and Sally Brant, Second Quarter Program Chair. Joining them were our speakers, Kasey Shuda and Olga Arroyo from the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project.
Announcements: PE Dwight Heikkila announced that the annual holiday party at Matteo’s on Tuesday, December 13th, 12-2 p.m. is shaping up to be a time to remember, Talk with Dwight soon if you want to attend.
Wednesday, December 14th at Eloise Siskel’s home, we will celebrate the Auxiliary Holiday Party. Contact Margie Downie for more information.
Terry de Sousa announced that the Holiday Shopping Spree for the children of the Salvation Army Transitional Living Center on Thursday, December 15th, will began at 5 p.m.
PP Gordon Fell Reported on a project we participated in on Tuesday. Past District Governor Bill Goodwyn, Mark Rogo and Gordon worked with students in the Business and Finance school at University High.
Next, PP and Nominating Committee Chair Chris Bradford began a Club assembly so we could vote on the officers for the 2012-13 Rotary Year. They are: Dwight Heikkila--President, Mark Rogo--President Elect, Leah Vriesman--Vice President, Aly Shoji-Secretary. Committee chairs will be: New Generations Chair--Dr. Colby Smith, Vocational Service Chair--Jack Paul, Community Service Chair--John Heidt, International Service Chair--Marsha Hunt. The At-Large Directors will be PP Gordon Fell and Brian Whitney. Rounding out the Board will be Immediate Past President Ed Jackson. They will face great challenges and opportunities as they lead us in our second year of the Innovative and Flexible Pilot Program.
Next, the captain of the servers, Mario, was asked to come up to the podium. When he started working our meetings, there were many complaints every meeting; now, not so many complaints, mostly smiles! The club presented him with a present to share with his crew for the great service they provide us.
We then celebrated December birthdays. PP Leo Tseng received a vest for his participation in our club projects. His latest is the Holiday Shopping Spree, with Ann Samson, who arranged the bus, Krista Stilley and Terry de Sousa.
Lastly, Sally Brant introduced our speakers, Kasey Shuda, Acting Manager, Community I-405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project. It is a ten-mile project from National Boulevard on the south extending 10 miles north. There are three segments, and Kasey and Olga are each responsible for one of the three.
