Thank you greeters Dwight Heikkila, Curt Smith, Terry White.
February 2, 2012 begins our awareness of world peace and understanding month. The pledge was given by President Ed, and President Elect Dwight Heikkila gave the invocation.
At the head-table were third-quarter program director Jack Paul, President Ed, Past President Chris Gaynor and President Elect Dwight. Joining them were Sophia Pansacola, a RN student at one of President Ed’s beloved schools, California State University, Los Angeles, our speaker, Michele Rigsby Pauley and Michelle Henrickson, her technology assistant.
The first announcement was about the Chinese New Year celebration, which took place on February 3. We had 38 members and guests at the Seafood Palace restaurant on Wilshire and Barrington. PP and President of the International Flying Rotarians Peter and Shirley More hosted the event, and we thank Shirley for her efforts in making this a wonderful event! Also attending were PE Dwight and Sook Heikkila; Jim and Carol Collins; Hank Heuer and his guest; Auxiliary President Pauline Harris; Bill and Ann Edwards; Tom and Margot Barron; Don and Roz Nelson; Ron and Guin Lyster; Ernie and Joy Wolfe; Pat Anderson; Bob and Judy Wessling and their guest. Michael and Sheila Yousem; PP Gordon and Vacharee Fell; Terry de Sousa; Marjorie Downing, PP Leo Tseng and his guest Betty; PP Homer with PP. Michael and Angele Newman; and President Ed and Nina Jackson rounded out our fun and friendly group. We were promised a ten course dinner, but not everyone had the fortitude to make it through all ten courses! After only seven courses, many complained that they were full.

After announcements, our club’s video was shown. It is now on our website and most social media sites. It shows our commitment to Connecting to our Community Through Education.
Our speaker, Michele Rigsby Pauley, works for Community Outreach Assistant for Children’s Health, or COACH. It is a company Cedars-Sinai Medical Center sponsors with two mobile units, trying to correct health issues one block at a time by providing physical examinations, immunization, TB screenings, vision screenings, developmental screenings, blood lead and anemia screenings, referrals to Cedars-Sinai or partnering community clinics. The company also provides dental, nutrition/fitness, case management and mental health services.
It was a great program and an important mission.
