No guests because this is an Assembly meeting per our President Tom Barron asked Mike Yousem to approach the podium, in honor of his 28 years spearheading the holiday shopping event, Mike was officially inducted into the "Barron Order of the Canes" for his service. For this honor, Mike received a one of a kind, ergonomic cane. =) Intro of head table Aly Shoji (Update - GREAT NEWS, My iPad was FOUND!!! Please heed my security announcement and load the free Find my iPhone app NOW if you have not done so. I am happy to assist at any meeting with your devices) Bill Goldwyn and Ed Gauld were also at the head table. Dr. Colby Smith, our membership chair, invited Mark Rogo and Phil Gabriel to the front to share our Board voted to induct Phil into our club. Phil was first introduced to us by our Merchant Minute and owns Scrubs Unlimited in the Westwood Village. Dwight provided gifts from the club to our newest member. PDG Bill Goodwyn provided a background on the purpose of our Club Assembly and announced Dick Walker, a former member passed away and his son, Lee Walker, was also a long time member. He then shared the good news that we are actually gathered for an annual meeting NOT an assembly as our dear President had been calling it ;) We are part of an International service with more than 32,000 clubs with more than 1.2 Million members The only question was: Should PDG Bill be fined for not wearing a tie and jacket? ;) As he sat at the head table he was fine free. PP Ed Jackson provided an update on our pilot program status we are 1 out of 200 clubs chosen worldwide out of 32,000 clubs. The friendly WVRC started a young professionals club to train future prospective members, made a few changes in bylaws to include corporate and family memberships, and incorporated more social media for our club to continue with our great reputation in the Rotary community. Dwight added supplemental stats to our clubs strengths Mark Rogo's theme: we are the best kept secret in not only Westwood but within our club! What is our global plan to reach out to our community in addition to the Merchant Minute to continue our mission for Service Above Self? Dick Thompson shared we will continue to work with Uni High and Diane Good and the city schools she staffs in the spring continue honoring our heroes and then the trip abroad John Heidt shared our community service is well represented by various counsels, we continue to support angel flight for patients and staff, Children's Easter baskets donated to the Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA by Leo will continue, as well as our support to Meals on wheels, OPCC, WOMP, and shared that the WVRC is serving as the conduit to many community org as 501(c)3 John asked the members of the YMCA to stand and presented them with a check from the Community Service committee. Ed Gauld, as chairman of nominating committee presented slate for 2013 for approval however not before sharing he went to the UCLA game with Leo and in his Actuarial way, extrapolated with two defections, there may not be any players left by Feb ;) Also noted he was confused that UCLA was playing Stanford, again? And of course announced Duke's athletic schedule to the club. Back to business: Your nominating committee presented for the Club's approval the following slate for the 2013 Board: President-Elect - John Heidt Vice President and Chair of Club Service - Aly Shoji Secretary - Dr. Colby Smith Treasurer - Terry M.
