Carla and Jumana attended the Rotary Peace Conference with International Chair, Marsha Hunt. They shared their take away of developing inner peace before even creating global peace. Also shared thoughts about creating peace in prosperity and careers in conflict resolution. They built stronger friendships from coaching and experienced ethical training which is especially important for potential futures in the healthcare profession. They WON the ethic competition but learned it is a lifestyle not just a test and competition.

PP Mike Newman introduced our speaker, Makoto Kobayashi. He studied law as an undergrad, suffered a stroke, went onto business and banking. He's here as a Scholar at the Anderson School. He's 36 so older than our usual exchange scholar.

From Himeji city in Hyogo prefecture near Hyogo and Kobe. Discussed food, culture, Tsunami update.

Makoto experienced a stroke and could not move the left side of his body and was told to just accept this life. He began recording changes in his life, not just his stats but his feelings. As he rehabilitated, he recorded daily his exercises and included what he felt/thought--anything in his mind. He postulated that the difference between those who recover and didn't had to do if the patient kept a record or no record. If the patient themselves write how they feel it begins a chain to change your mind, your behavior, your habits, your personality, your fortune, and your whole world.

This led to his creation of an app "Record-U" to support managing your weight! By applying recordings, the success from recording everyday and monthly self reviews and intermittent recording were better than some of the traditional systems out there because clients did not want to record bad habits/foods compared with Weight watchers, Jenny Craig, Nutria System, etc. Smartphone technology makes it possible to record everything necessary with a minimum effort--now all he needs is investors!

Four of the Rotaractors from our UCLA club shared their winning experience at the first annual Ethics Contest that the District conducted. They won $1500 for their club and their performance was so good and well-rehearsed, a video was made and shown at the District Conference. Yay, Bruins!
