"My Swan Song"

Aly Shoji led the pledge today and Art Henry provided the invocation

At our Head Table were the speakers, Michael and Jordan Wacht of Neutrino Networks, Inc.

President Dwight on the downslide of this Presidency surveyed the membership re: our last meeting venue at the Angeleno and Bill Edwards was fined $25 for ruining Dwight's joke ;)

Our program today is "The Basic Operations of Computers" by Michael and Jordan Wacht of Neutrino Networks, Inc.

Neutrino is an Outsourcing IT consulting firm.  The main message was about Data Protection and Security using multi-layer defenses
Starting with your desktop -
  1. Buy a decent anti-virus and don't use the free one that comes with computer, you will pay later
  2. Standardize your software and perform a  centralized Check that it works
  3. Centrally manage Patch Management which means update your software everyday! Can Automatically run on all programs including Apps
Gave examples of strong password policies:
  • Mix upper and lower case
  • Use numbers and special characters
  • Minimum eight characters
  • And different one so consider using a pass phrase "Ice cream is delish!"
    • Facebook: Fce cream is delish!
    • Pinterest: Pce Cream is delish!
    • Gmail: Gce cream is delish!
If you have a server there are four common problems:
Back-ups that don't really work - if you have a Mac go to Staples and buy a program

Back-ups that run occasionally vs around the clock
Data on the server is unprotected So use encryption
Poor offsite back-up procedure (can trade with hard drive with family etc)

Encouraged membership to ask questions to their IT dept.  They left a sample worksheet of these issues that we can access and use within our own offices.
